In this post we’re talking about creating a modern victorian bathroom with some design ideas for you. Keep reading to be on your way to a classic bathroom design!
The Victorian aesthetic is too good to be ignored when thinking about design inspiration. The Victorian era was all about going above and beyond in design: intricate and extensive woodwork, colors, grand staircases, elaborate wallpaper, and basically ornate everything. It was certainly a time to be alive.
Victorian style gets its name from the era that it was popular, which was when Queen Victoria was in reign (1837-1901). It was a time after the Industrial Revolution where there was growing prosperity and a larger middle class. The over-the-top character of Victorian style was a way to show wealth and style.
There are many Victorian houses still around and perhaps you’re lucky enough to live in one! If you do live in one, there is so much greatness that comes with trying to preserve the elements of Victorian style in your home rather than painting everything white, adding shiplap, and throwing some grey laminate floor over existing hardwoods rich with history.
We at Decor Curator are huge fans of trying to maintain the style of your home’s type while updating things to feel fresh and modern at the same time.
And that brings us to today’s topic of creating a modern Victorian bathroom.
Creating a Modern Victorian Bathroom Design
A bathroom is somewhere that you 100% don’t want to feel old and outdated. There’s a difference between a charming old look and just outdated. And if you live in a Victorian home, odds are that someone already took all of the original bathroom components out.
So to add a little Victorian feel to your bathroom with a modern touch, think about the following characteristics: ornate, curves, bright colors, statement lighting, and classic tile shapes.
We’ve put an example design below that has it all:
- A gorgeous gold mirror with curves and baroque features
- Classic understated brass sconces paired with a shining crystal chandelier
- Rich green subway tile
- Gorgeous curved brass bathroom hardware set with towel bar, towel hooks, and a toilet paper holder
- A classic neutral black and white tile to pair with the green subway tile
- And to top it all off, a clawfoot tub perfect for soaking in to admire your beautiful bathroom
