There’s so much to love about the french country style – that’s why we’re covering our favorite french country bedroom decorating ideas in this post.
Decorating any room is challenging, but it always feels like there’s a bit of extra pressure and challenge to a few rooms in the house, the bedroom being one.
One of the reasons why decorating a bedroom can be hard is that most of us want to creating a relaxing oasis and that’s not always as simple to create as it sounds.
We don’t know about you, but we’ve stayed in a lot of hotel rooms with designs that didn’t exactly feel relaxing or inviting. There are plenty of poorly designed rooms out there – design is hard!
When you set out to design a room from scratch, there’s a lot to think about.
How to Design a Room
First you have to start with what you’re working with already. How big is the room? Where are the light fixtures wired? What’s your storage situation? How much natural light does the room get? How much are you willing to spend to make non-decorative changes like moving walls? And so much more…
Then it’s time to think about what the heck you want to do. What’s your personal style? How do you want to feel in this room? How will it flow from the other rooms? What color palate resonates with you? Are we going minimalist or maximalist? Or somewhere in between?
And of course there’s ALWAYS the question of a budget.
All of these factors that make decorating challenging (even for the professionals!) is why we recommend looking for inspiration when designing a room.
Where to Find Inspiration
Pinterest is a wonderful place to just start looking, see what you like, and start saving photos to a board. You can also do this on Instagram, but we usually think that Pinterest is a bit easier for this when searching for anything specific.
Another fantastic place to look for inspiration is magazines! There are lots of home design magazines and they display home tours and so much more that can provide you some home inspo.
And for today’s post, we have several photos that display one of the most timeless styles for bedroom inspo: french country.
What is French Country Style?
French country mostly draws on the styles seen in the Provence region of France, where lavender fields, rolling hills of vineyards, and sunshine are some of the most defining characteristics along with the charming country homes all around. French country style brings some of those elements into your home, no matter where you are in the world.
Part farmhouse, part shabby chic, part traditional, and part Parisian glam, french country has it all.
The french country style gives you feelings of warmth, comfort, and elegance. All typically very desirable aspects of a beautiful home.

Inspiration Photos
Our first two photos are from the famous Le Mas de Poiriers, a gorgeous 18th century house in Provence, France. This house is the epitome of french country style and there’s nothing that we don’t love about it!
The house was bought in 2015 and restored by an American woman and now you can even rent it for your own enjoyment!
The first photo has all of your classic french country elements: bed crown, upholstered bed frame, gorgeous printed fabrics, timeless light fixtures, and a light, airy, yet regal feel.
The second photo has a bit more drama with its floral fabric providing a canopy to the bed.
If you’re more of a minimalist but still love elegance, this next photo is for you.
Nothing about this room is over-the-top, but rather feels understated and refined with its curved wood on both the headboard and nightstand along with the simple upholstery and bedding.
Below is another inspiration photo showing the more natural, rustic side of french country style. We love how simple and organic this feels but topped with the subtle glamour of the ornate gold mirror.
This room exudes elegance with everything about it – from the bed crown to the accent chair!
Our last inspiration photo provides more color than some of the more minimalist design. The use of matching fabrics on the bed skirt, headboard, and curtain provides a cohesive look that isn’t too busy.
Now that we have our inspiration, here are some of the main elements that make a french country room beautiful including product links so that you can get started designing your own french country bedroom oasis!

Bed Crown
Could anything make you feel more like royalty than a bed crown with beautiful fabric and literal crown bordering your bed? We think not.
Upholstered Bench
In nearly all of the inspiration photos that we shared there is a nicely upholstered bench at the foot of the bed. This creates a wonderful sitting area for when you’re getting ready or just relaxing. Bonus is that it also serves as a great place to put throw pillows when you need to clear them from the bed!
Here are several gorgeous ones – from budget-friendly to investment pieces!
Bed Frames
Yes, everyone does need a bed frame. But the french country style does bed frames particularly well.
Most french country style bed frames include either upholstered or cane headboards – both with elegant curved wood frames. Here are some gorgeous ones that would make a real statement in any bedroom:
Bedding
For bedding in a french country-inspired bedroom we’d say stick to lighter-toned fabrics like this white duvet cover. Other great options are toile and floral printed pieces that add pattern to a room. Or if you love both options, choose a white duvet cover and throw a toile quilt or coverlet folded onto the bottom. When it comes to creating an elegant bed, layering is key!
Pillows
And because no bed can be absent of throw pillows, here are some beautiful ones that would be right at home in a french country room. Same concepts with bedding apply to throw pillows in keeping to lighter tones and embracing feminine patterns.
Nightstand
The nightstands that we’ve included go from simple and refined to ornate and showstopping, but all equally in place in the french country style.
Lighting
The same theme that you’ve hopefully picked up on throughout our adventure through the french country bedroom design applies to lighting: simple and elegant.
Here we’ve included all lighting options: plug-in wall sconces that could serve as bedside lighting, 2 overhead light options, and a set of lamps that work perfectly on a nightstand or dresser.
Other Decor
Honestly we think these items belong in every room, but are definitely in the right place in a french country design: flowers and candles. Flowers bring life and candles bring warmth – what’s not to love? You could honestly stick just a vase of flowers in a room on the floor surrounded by candles and the room would be beautiful. But imagine if it was also surrounded by other beautiful things like ornate dressers and beautifully patterned fabrics??
And no, real flowers aren’t always necessary. Not all of us have the time and funds to always have fresh flowers and that’s okay. Artificial flowers can usually provide the same effect and last forever. Another great option is dried flowers that look just like the real thing because they are!
