Whether some of us like it or not, there’s likely a lot of working from home in our future.
Working from home comes with the good and the bad. Some of the best parts of working from home include:
- No commute! Unless you count the steps from your bed to your desk a commute 🙂
- Flexibility – It’s easy to run a quick errand, throw some laundry in, etc. when you don’t have to be at an office all day
- Focus – When you’re not surrounded by a bunch of people in an office, it can feel a lot more manageable to crank out some work without distractions
- You get to be in a space that you designed and hopefully love! The surroundings in an office can leave a lot to be desired. From the fluorescent lighting, standard office furniture, uncomfortable chairs, and more, it’s usually not the prettiest place to be.
We will admit that working from home can have its downsides. Maybe you have kids there that distract you. Maybe you miss the social interactions and getting out of your house. Perhaps it’s hard to step away from your work at the end of the day because the physical space between work and home life is nonexistent.
We think that some of these issues can be solved by creating a work from home space that you LOVE!
How can you do that? Let’s talk about a few ways…
How to create a work from home space that you LOVE
- Lighting – We’re in the age of video calls and you’ve hopefully learned how important lighting is for a camera. That said, add in some pretty lighting that you like. Whether it’s an overhead light, a sconce, or a lamp on your desk, it’ll help a lot!
- Remove clutter – Unless you have great ability to cope, having clutter and messiness around us is not good for our mental health. Make it a priority and a habit to keep your place clean and comfortable. One great way to do this is to create a habit such as clearing your desk at the end of every workday.
- Surround yourself with things that bring you joy – It truly is the little things that make us the happiest. We should keep some of these things around us to make us happy when things are busy or stressful with work. Some ideas are a picture frame with a photo of family, flowers, paintings, lights, and candles.
- Make space where you have privacy – A lot of us probably didn’t have dedicated home office spaces before the pandemic. So we were forced to plop ourselves wherever we could and sometimes those spaces didn’t offer the ultimate quiet and private environment that we need. Try to identify a space where you’ll be able to focus and not get distracted.
- Comfortable seating – You’ll likely be spending a lot of time at your desk so you better make yourself comfortable! Need some help? Check out this post on french country accent chairs that has a few that can double as desk chairs!
