This post contains a curated list of outdoor patio dining tables for every budget and space along with some inspiration photos and tips on how to find your perfect table!
One of the better things in life is enjoying your personal outdoor space with a nice meal or beverage outside on a nice day.
In order to do that, you typically need a dining table to set your things on!
If you search “outdoor dining table” you’re likely going to be overwhelmed by the number of choices that pop up as you search for the best one for you. That’s why in this post we’ve narrowed the many options down to just a few of our favorites that we think would work across a variety of spaces, budgets, and design styles.
But first, why even have an outdoor dining table?
Reasons to have an outdoor dining table
If you’re already reading this post on the hunt for your own outdoor dining table, you may not need convincing. But for a lot of people, outdoor space is limited and sometimes you have to choose between a dining table and something more casual like a conversation seating area, firepit, and one of the many other things that you could do with an outdoor space.
So that said, why choose an outdoor dining table? Here are a few reasons:
- Easily eat outside: Sometimes you just need a space to set a plate and other dining utensils. If you have a conversation set with no table, eating may be a lot more difficult. (Bonus: it also gives you a great opportunity to design a beautiful tablescape when entertaining outside!)
- Fill some space: If you’re one of the lucky ones with a lot of outdoor space to fill, it can be nice to use a large dining table to designate an area for eating.
- Create a perfect spot for entertaining: If summer barbecues and backyard parties are on your list of favorite activities, outdoor dining tables make for the perfect spot to have friends and family over.
- Working from home: With the way a lot of us live these days, we often find ourselves working from home in a home office space sitting at a desk all day. But one of the perks of working from home is that outside counts as working from home! Having an outdoor dining table makes your outdoor space not just a great place to eat, but also a great place to set up shop and get a bit of outside time amongst a long day of working.
Special considerations when buying an outdoor dining table
Convinced to buy your own outdoor dining table yet? Let’s talk about some of the many things that you’ll need to consider in your journey buying yourself one:
- Location: Of course where you’re going to be putting the table matters a lot. Most spaces will only allow for certain sizes of tables. Make sure to measure before you buy!
- Shape: You’ll come across a few common dining table shapes: rectangular, round, square, and oval. You may like the looks of certain ones over others and some may fit better in certain types of spaces than others!
- Seating amount: If you plan to use your table for a lot of entertaining, having a table that will seat many people would likely be a good fit. But if you think you’ll only ever have a few people (or just yourself!), having a large table might be a bit much.
- Matching preference: Many outdoor dining tables have coordinating chairs that come with them. If that’s a style that you like, this may be something to consider. But if you like a mismatched look with seating and tables, that may not be as much of a consideration for you. We’ve included several tables with matching sets if desired!
- Umbrella hole: A lot of outdoor dining tables have umbrella holes to shield you from the sun on a hot summer day. If this is something that you need, keep an eye out for ones that include this! We’ve linked several.
- Maintenance: Some outdoor dining tables like wood ones may require you to seal them every once in a while in order to preserve them by protecting them from the elements. If you’re not looking for much maintenance, keep this in mind.
