In this post, find the best rugs for almost every style: french country, modern, mid-century modern, bohemian, farmhouse, traditional, and beachy/nautical/coastal 🙂
While everyone loves to have beautiful floors in their home, you can sometimes have too much of a good thing. When you have too much of your floor showing and it makes it look a little bland, a rug is 100% the perfect thing to add.
Sometimes you may not even like your floors and in that case, a rug happens to also be the perfect thing to add.
Even if you have carpet you can include a rug to add some additional texture or color. This is controversial to some, but actually really helps to add a nice design element in a room.
When you initially set out on your rug-buying journey it can be a bit overwhelming. Almost every home decor store sells rugs along with home improvement stores and all of the major online marketplaces like Amazon and Target. Then there are so many sizes, designs, colors, and many more options to choose from. How does one know what to do??
This is exactly why we’ve assembled this collection of some of the best rugs for any style. Scroll through to see each of the best rugs for all of the styles that we’ve included in this post!

French Country
Rugs in french country designs are typically elegant looking while having a bit of a rustic feel. Usually you won’t find super bright colors in a french country design, but rather soft, muted tones. Check out these ones:
- Ruggable: The color of this is even called French Gray! This could also be great in a traditional design.
- Ruggable: While this one’s color is a little less muted, the colors still go great in a french country design.
- Ruggable: This has the subtle colors that fit well in a french country room but in a unique design.
- Ruggable: Here’s a simple but gorgeous one with its traditional border style. Another that would fit great in a traditional style as well.
- Ruggable: Another simple one but in grey for a cooler color palette.

Modern
The modern style can take lots of forms, but for this style you’ll want to look for rugs that are either geometric, abstract, or have a neutral design. Here’s a few to try out:
- Ruggable: This style is so popular probably because it goes well with many types of furniture and colors. It also gets bonus points for comfort with its plush texture!
- Ruggable: Get a very sophisticated look with this one.
- Anthropologie: How unique and beautiful is this one?!
- Rugs USA: This neutral chevron one is very versatile.
Mid-Century Modern
The mid-century modern style has a lot of diverse elements, but often has a mix of neutral and bright colors and a retro kind of feel to it. Here are a few different rugs that would fit wonderfully in this style:
- Ruggable: A great option if neutrals are more of your thing.
- Anthropologie: The opposite of a neutral but certainly gorgeous, especially if millennial pink is in your set of favorite colors.
- Joybird: Another more unique rug with beautiful colors and designs.
- Target: If you love geometric shapes, this is a wonderful option.
Bohemian
The bohemian style is very relaxed and carefree with lots of colors, shapes, and textures. There are no real rules to this style. Here are a few great ones to try if this is the style that you’re going for:
- Ruggable: Such a cool dark option.
- Ruggable: This one certainly makes a statement with its bold geometric shapes.
- World Market: Somehow this pink color feels so neutral.Â
Farmhouse
The farmhouse style has become so popular in recent years and for good reason. This style is so homey, warm, and comforting that finds its way into many homes these days. For this style, choose rugs with muted colors that look a little distressed. Here are some beautiful options:
- Ruggable: This rustic rug has blue and coral tones in its ornate patterns.
- Ruggable: Here is a great neutral rustic rug with its browns, creams, and gold.
- Ruggable: For a softer feel this is a great option.
- World Market: This one is a classic jute rug that works for many styles that use rustic elements.Â
Traditional
Rugs in the traditional style are very versatile and often come in more neutral tones like beiges, greys, whites, and blues. Check out these ones:
- Ruggable: This rug is nearly as traditional as it gets.
- Ruggable: Similar to #1, but with more neutral tones.
- Ruggable: Blue and white and chinoiseries fans – this one’s for you! (For more blue and white decor, check out this post: Blue & White Decor)
- Ruggable: If you don’t want your new rug to have much in the way of color or designs, this is a good option for a plain grey one.
- Ruggable: A darker traditional option.
Beachy / Nautical / Coastal
If you live in a home anywhere near the water (or just wish that you did!), a beachy/nautical/coastal style may be the right kind for you. This style often has neutral tones mixed with some blues to match the colors of the water. Try these rugs:
- Ruggable: What says beach better than some starfish!
- Ruggable: Blue and white stripes are a perfect way to get the nautical look without screaming nautical.
- World Market: A lighter jute rug to give a rustic feel to your beachy design.Â
- Anthropologie: More blue and white to pay tribute to that beautiful blue water that we all love and in a beautiful design at that.
